Ampay... "breathing forest in the snow"

Nota.- para las personas que deseen un trekking más suave o por motivos de tiempo solo puedan quedarse dos días la laguna Uspaqocha es el punto final de ascenso, desde allí se hace el descenso hacia la estación ecológica demorando este aproximadamente 3 a 4 horas para tomar el carro que nos trasladara a la ciudad de Abancay.

Te old belief of the old Peruvian Andean people respecting the mountains was to go to the Apus (Lords) that were the mountains to leave offerings to ask be grateful for the harvest and for asking for good weather and no disasters coming from “pacha mama” (earth mom), taking in count the field was the main activity of this culture, they considered the Apus like Gods and they were used to treat them with a lot of respect and ascend frequently, rescuing this manner nowadays we climbed with a lot of respect this volcano who´s name mean warrior knowing in his 5825 m.a.s.l. we´ll find a nice adventure and a good challenge to the persons that like this kind of nature sports and that love the mom nature.
Basic Equipment Required
-High or medium mountain Tent
-High or medium mountain Sleeping bag
-Boots for trekking (high of preference)
-Lamp (and front of preference)
-Warm jackets and trousers for minus 0 degrees temperatures
-Warm Gloves and socks for minus 0 degrees temperatures
-Sticks for trekking
-Sun block
-Sun glasses
Recommended Food- 2 or 3 liters of water (depending how much water u drink and the weight u can carry)
- All kind of nuts and dry food
- Cheese, bread and fast soups
- Chocolates
- Energetic or cereal bars
- Candies ( is important to be moisturized all the time)
Our adventure starts in Arequipa city usually the 4wd truck pick up us in the main square or in the hotel we are located in, at 8 or 9 in the morning we stat the trip to Misti that is aproximately one hour passing by the last part of Arequipa in taking the East direction, then after finish the highway we will take a dirty road that is gonna carry us to the place we will start to trekk by a single track, this point is the end of this dirty road and its located over the 3300 m.a.s.l., here we will start our trekk of the first day in order to reach the first camp or pyramid camp cause the shape of some rocks there, it is over 4500 m.a.s.l., walking we will apreciatte the some typical flowers and particular wild life like the humming bird of the insects, (the mountain fly) in this desertic area, after a pleasant rest enjoying the sundown we will go to eat the dinner cooked by the guide in order to sleep not within take heavy harm clothes before, dont forget we will face a cold until -5 C.
The next day early i the morning since the first hours of the new day we will start to walk up and the adventre of attack to the summit its started, crossing rockies ladnscapes and some shelters of the walkers we will reach the rocky arc that is the point where we will see how our body react with the alttitude because we are over 5000 m.a.s.l. there is one option to come back at this part of the way, and teh persons that contiue, is because they will reach the top, after 6 or 7 good hours of trekking, we`ll reach the crossroad that carry us to the crater or to the cross, if we decide to go to the cross, its 45 minutes more going up and the stepest but on the same time nicest part of landscape, after this we are in the top reaching the cross that was brought in 1900 by the jesuits francicians religious order in order to kill the belief of the andean culture that Misti was a lord, after this we can go down making a short stop in the crater and apreciatte the awsome landscape, for taking the way back and start to go down in a steep but funny sloap by the sand, after 2 hour ging down we will be in the camp again, we pack the things and continue going down by this kind of slopes like this we will be i the dirty road end in 2 hours more, and we will be back in Arequipa after the 60 aproximately minutes that the truck takes to come back to the city.

Ascenso al Apu tutelar de Arequipa Misti 5825 m.s.n.m.Para propios el Misti es una montaña emblemática y para extranjeros todo un reto; símbolo de Arequipa, guardián de nuestra hermosa ciudad y prometido eterno de la misma como bien lo dice la canción de los Dávalos. Esta ocasión les presento el reto y/o aventura de ascender a su cráter aun activo, y tocar la cruz que se encuentra en la cima, monumento hecho de rieles que representa el mestizaje y la conquista religiosa, puesta en el año 1900 por la orden de los jesuitas y que ni el pasar del tiempo, el intenso frio (de hasta -10 grados en época de invierno) ni sus 5825 metros sobre los cuales yace erguida han podido diezmar. Acompáñenos pues a recorrer los mejores parajes y detalles de esta aventura detallados en fotografías y un video editado por el autor de este blog y que va dedicado al Misti = guerrero (según definiciones de las voces quechuas) y a toda la gente con el espíritu aventurero que decide intentar llegar a su cima, pues como decimos los arequipeños “no se nace en vano al pie de un volcán”.

ü Linternas ( preferentemente frontal)
ü Casacas y pantalones resistentes para temperaturas de 0 grados
ü Guantes para montaña (si son los simples de lana 2 pares)
ü Bastones de caminata (opcional depende del pasajero)
ü Bloqueador solar
Comida recomendada
ü 2 ó 3 litros de agua ( dependiendo el comsumo del pasajero)
ü cualquier tipo de comida deshidratada ( mani, pasas, almendras barras energéticas)
ü Queso, pan y sopas rapidas
ü Chocolates y caramelos
ü NO recomendable carne ni comidas que contengan grasa
Breve descripción de la aventura
La aventura comienza cuando nuestra movilidad nos recoge del punto acordado, luego nos trasnportamos por medio de un ascenso de aproximadamente 1000 metros, demorando una hora hasta un letrero informativo de la reserva natural, que nos detalla la altitud del area y algunas cosas mas, aquí es donde empieza nuestro recorrido a pie, en el cual por medio de un camino de coloridas flores y agreste vegetación, en medio del arido ecosistema reinante en las faldas del Misti accederemos después de 5 horas promedio al campamento base o también conocido como campamento pirámide, donde nos alimentaremos, repondremos energias y descansaremos no sin antes disfrutar de los impresionantes colores del atardecer y una noche llena de estrellas a 4600 metros de altitud, el segundo dia nos levantamos a la 1 de la madrugada , alistamos nuestro equipo básico para subir como son la linterna, el baston y las provisiones de comida y liquido, y bien abrigados procedemos al ataque de la cumbre, caminando por un promedio de 6 a 7 horas cruzamos los 5000 metros que para muchas personas no adecuadas a la altura es el punto crucial de este ascenso, luego seguimos hacia la cumbre donde en medio del frio, la fresca mañana y la emoción de estar cada vez ams cerca de nuestro objetivo llegamos al cráter desde donde podremos apreciar el gran tamaño de este y la actividad del mismo, para luego seguir nuestro ascenso hacia la cruz que está ubicada a 45 minutos más de caminata, después de agobiantes pero ya los últimos pasos podemos divisar y dar alcance a la cruz que es la cima de la montaña, ahí descansamos y apreciamos la majestuosidad de la montaña y la libertad que se siente gozar de esta conquista que significa haber llegado hasta este punto, desde aquí podemos divisar paisajes impresionantes y lugares que normalmente no son posibles de avistar desde la ciudad, después de esto emprendemos la bajada que es mucho más breve que la subida, por un sendero arenoso y muy inclinado donde sin mayores peligros descenderemos hasta el campamento, para guardar todo nuestro equipo y seguir hacia el punto donde nos recoge nuevamente la movilidad. Tiempo aproximado total de bajada 5 horas.

well i make this trip normaly by public bus, in this way you can feel like one person living here is not the best but is th normal way that one person would take here to travel and enjoy the culture and people in a closer way .. but if you want i can arrange a private tour too, but is good to say that is just the tansportation.

-(1st day) "Cruz del Condor"(croise of the condor) looking condor's point, in this point early in the morning is possible to look the flight of the condor, then we can go to cabanaconde to start the treck to the Oasis of San Galle near the middle of the day.
- (1st day) Cabanaconde town and sorrounding points walking to the Oasis of San Galle. Cabanaconde altitude 3200 m.a.s.l.
- (1st day) walking down in the colca canyon to Oasis of San Galle village (3 hours going down, pre inca's track) where u can find small swimming pools, fruits and wild rustic cheap lodges to sleep and enjoy a good time to relax after all day trecking. Oasis altitude 2100 m.a.s.l.
- (2nd day) coming back to Cabanaconde we will wake up early in the morning in order to walk up for 3 hours average until cabanaconde, then is optional if you want to go to chivay town (2 hours from cabanaconde) to spend the day there or u can take the bus coming back to arequipa from cabanaconde to travel 5 hours to arequipa city.

- (1st day) San Juan de Chucchos town is one green town where you will find lodges to relax a lot of fruits and friendly people. San Juan de chucchos altitude 2200 m.a.s.l.
- (2nd day) walking from San Juan de Chucchos town to Oasis de San Galle (3-4 hours) passing optionally by tapay looking point and town (2850 m.a.s.l.) and then going in anyway by malata town to finally reach the Oasis of San Galle . Oasis of San Galle altitude 2100 m.a.s.l.
- (3rd day) going to cabanaconde town... we will wake up early in the morning in order to walk up for 3-4 hours average until cabanaconde, then is optional if you want to go to chivay town (2 hours from cabanaconde) to spend the day there or u can take the bus coming back to arequipa from cabanaconde to travel 5 hours to arequipa city.

- (4th day) going from Oasis of San Galle to Tapay and San Juan de Chucchos.. going to San juan de Chucchos village we walk for 4-5 hours passing by Malata village, by Tapay village and looking point, walking 5-6 hours until arrive to San Juan de Chucchos village where you will find lodges to relax a lot of fruits and friendly people.

- (5thday ) going to cabanaconde town... we will wake up early in the morning in order to walk up for 4-5 hours average until Cabanaconde town, then is optional if you want to go to chivay town (2 hours from cabanaconde) to spend the day there or u can take the bus coming back to arequipa from cabanaconde to travel 5 hours to arequipa city.
